Mr. Aruna Abeyakoon

Dr. Lakshman Denepitiya is a distinguished academic, clinician, and community leader whose life journey is rooted in excellence, service, and leadership. A proud alumnus of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy, Dr. Denepitiya is celebrated as one of the finest scholars the College has produced. During his school years, he rose to the pinnacle of student leadership as Head Prefect, captained the College Cricket Team, and was awarded the prestigious Bead Memorial Gold Medal, a rare honor bestowed on students exemplifying outstanding all-around achievement.

Professionally, Dr. Denepitiya is an oral biologist and academic of global repute. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Medical Science in Oral Microbiology (MMedSc) in Sri Lanka, and later completed his DDS and PhD in Oral Biology at Stony Brook University, New York. He is also a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology (FICOI).

Dr. Denepitiya has held prominent academic positions including Assistant Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya, and Research/Clinical Faculty roles at SUNY Stony Brook and NYU Dental School, where he trained and mentored future leaders in dentistry. He practiced advanced implant and prosthetic dentistry in Long Island, New York and Connecticut.

His leadership extends beyond academia and clinical practice. As Past President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association of North America, Dr. Denepitiya has been a driving force in fostering medical collaboration and community outreach among Sri Lankan professionals in the U.S. At present he holds the responsibility of St. Anthony’s College Kandy Old Boys Association in USA as a Trustee, continuing his lifelong commitment to the College and its global alumni.
